Historie

JPK Composites, the history

1992: JPK Composites, the history, the beginning

The shipyard JPK Composites was founded in 1992 by Jean-Pierre Kelbert. JPK Composites positions itself as a top-quality producer of funboard surfboards for competitive surfers. Earlier, in his younger years, in 1988 and 1989, Jean-Pierre himself became European surfing champion, and in 1988 he finished second at the Olympic Games in Seoul. From 2002, JPK Composites began focusing on the production of sailing yachts.

2003: JPK 960, design by Jacques Valer

Jacques Valer, a lesser-known but ultra-talented maritime architect, accelerated the process, and in March 2003, the first JPK 960 was launched. From its very first racing year, this planing boat has turned the IRC world upside down.

2010: JPK 1010, a resounding success

In the years 2005 to 2009, the JPK 110, JPK 40, and JPK 998 models followed, and these models were less successful, particularly due to a poor IRC handicap. But in 2010, JPK Composites returned with the resounding success of the JPK 1010, also a design by Jaques Valer, with victories in the Transquadra 2006, 2009, 2012, and 2015, and the Fasnet 2013 in no fewer than every possible class!

2012: Fast Cruiser JPK 38 FC

In addition to the racers, the first FAST CRUISER was also developed, with the launch of the JPK 38 FC in April 2012. It made a remarkable entrance into the world of sailing yachts by immediately winning the title of Sailboat of the Year 2013. It was praised by all its happy owners! With the perfect balance between performance and comfort, the concept was truly innovative in yacht building at that time.

2014: JPK 1080, a new racing machine

In March 2014, a new racing machine was launched: the JPK 1080. At the time, it was an unknown in the IRC 2 class.

After a perfect season, in which the boat achieved a historic double victory in the overall standings of the Rolex Fasnet Race and the legendary Sydney Hobart Race, it was nominated for European Boat of the Year 2015.

The 1080, which took first and second place in the Tranquadra in 2018, is moreover a fantastic boat for solo and two-handed sailing.

2016: JPK 45 FC, a new Fast Cruiser

The larger JPK 45 FC is designed for long-distance voyages. It is a versatile design, with a solid yet lightweight construction that made a high weight-to-weight ratio possible.

The JPK 45 FC managed to convince trade journalists and earned the title of Sailboat of the Year 2016 due to the following features:

  • it is a fast ship
  • perfect ergonomics
  • maximum safety and protection thanks to the wheelhouse
  • comfort at sea and in the harbor
  • a beautiful interior finish with wood and light materials.

2018: JPK 1180, IRC 1 and IRC 2 racer

In 2018, the JPK 1180 was added to the range of racing boats for IRC 2 and IRC 1.

Here too, Jacques Valer was right about increasing the volume in the forward sections: the boat is unbeatable, both in coastal waters and on the open sea!

Victories followed in Semaine de Cowes/ Rolex Fastnet Race Overall/ Rolex Middlesea Race Overall, etc. The boat’s versatility is its greatest asset.

JPK Composites, the history

2019: JPK 1030, master in single- or dual handed sailing

Thee JPK 1030 marks a change in Jacques’ design. The focus shifts to single-handed or dual-handed offshore racing.

The JPK 1030 is powerful thanks to the ballast and the large forward volume, yet at the same time light, smooth, and planing.

The boat makes a great impression in downwind conditions, such as during the 2019 Fastnet, which he won in the dual-handed class with a substantial lead.

2021: JPK 39 FC,successor to the JPK 38 FC

The JPK 39 FC is the sublime example of a sailing yacht built by a racing shipyard… It is a cross between a light, planing racing yacht and a larger displacement cruiser.

The result? An ultra-fast and versatile yacht in all conditions, ergonomic, safe, and comfortable, with light living spaces. A few months after its launch, the JPK 39 FC was crowned Sailboat of the Year in France, and shortly thereafter, Best Performance Cruiser of the Year 2022 in the European Yacht of the Year competition.

2023: De NOMAD 40, a motorboot

Most motorboats limit their trips to short coastal excursions due to the discomfort at sea and high fuel consumption. Sailboats often limit the optimal layout of living space.

The Nomad 40 addresses both issues with a streamlined, lightweight, and high-quality hull combined with a spacious superstructure.

The NOMAD embodies a new philosophy of boating, prioritizing the pleasure of being on the water, discovering new places, and minimizing environmental impact.

2025: JPK 1050, the new racing beast from JPK Composites

The JPK 1050 builds upon the concept first explored in 2019 with the JPK 1030: chines, a scowbow, and a large sail area. The high rating is amply justified by pure performance.

The boat is explosive and planes, making a great impression upwind and downwind, while also delivering more than respectable performance upwind.

As the resounding winner of the Spi Ouest France Regatta in its debut season, the JPK 1050 proves that it belongs in the hall of fame of JPK champions!
