Performance cruiser, after 8 years of preparation.

After 8 years of preparation our brand new Performance Cruiser is finally expected to be launched soon.

The final items we needed to decide on were the antifouling and the name stickers.

So last week the shipyard put on the antifouling. Initially our minds were settled on Hempel Silic One, but at the end we have decided to go for Coppercoat. Although we have good experience with Silic One on sweet water, we think the latter will be more furnerable to damage by floating debris as the hard coppercoat.

The Coppercoat manufacturer states it is the most durable and long-lasting antifouling available (20 to 30 year). If this is true it will save us valueable time and money on haulouts and repainting. The investment is double but we expect the yearly costs to be less.

Coppercoat has no chemical biocide. Ofcourse it does contain copper which is not good for the environment, but the copper is inhibited in epoxy. The antifouling is non ablative so less harmfull drop down on the sea bed. And it is said it creates a smooter and cleaner surface with less drag.

Redo the keel coating

The keel was ordered with the standard antifouling, and had to be stripped again before applying the Coppercoat.

Serialnumber 19 or 20?

At our last visit we were a bit confused when we read the writing on the whiteboard.

Wait a minute …., number nineteen? We thought we had number 20? Our new sail number is also been addressed to this, which will be NL3920.

Well, this is like hotel rooms. You don’t find a room number 13. Superstition…

So at JPK they hop from 12 to 14. So actually we have number 19, but the externally our serialnumber is number 20.
